Colton’s #18 and Lauren’s #20: Handwritten letters

Back in December, Colton and I presented our 30 for 30 lists to each other, with only talking about ideas that we may add to them previously. To our surprise, we had a few that were the same or extremely similar. Colton’s 18 and Lauren’s 20 are listed as hand writing letters to an inspirational or impactful person from our lives.

Colton wrote to Dr. Todd Brown, who is an exceptional Orthopedic Surgeon located in Grand Rapids, MI. He specializes in spinal disorders and when Colton visited him after being sent away from other doctors with a recommendation to use ibuprofen, he got right down to business. Colton was diagnosed with a slipped disc that herniated to his sciatic nerve. Dr. Brown was able to get him into surgery ASAP to relieve his excruciating pain. After recovery time (which is VERY hard for the Funtivity Colton), he was back to his regular activities. Colton is so thankful to his professionalism and devotion to put patients first.

I (Lauren) wrote to Ms. McNeill, her third grade teacher. She was an amazing educator that had the ability to make every student feel cared for and appreciated. Ms. McNeill helped to bring me out of my shell and find my humorous side. I remember her teaching with such enthusiasm that her classroom was filled with students that couldn’t look away. We had engaging lessons, super fun stations to rotate through, and a teacher duo (shout out to Ms. Harris too!) that could make us laugh so much that our sides hurt. Ms McNeill helped me to see the importance of a great educator. I was fortunate enough to have a lineup of amazing teachers throughout my life, but Ms. McNeill has always stood out as a truly special one.

When was the last time you hand wrote someone a note or letter? I grew up with the knowledge that thank you notes go a long way, and I know how exciting it is to receive mail from people- my good friend Lydia is EXCELLENT about sending snail mail! Our recommendation to you for some feel good vibes is to sit down and write a letter. Or a note. Something to show someone that you care.
