Our Story

Entering 2020, we’ve decided to shake up our every day lifestyle. We are so excited for the upcoming year and the opportunities it will bring. We are 1990 babies, so this year welcomes our 30th birthdays! A little scary, but we’re welcoming it with open arms! With our thirtieth year of life, we each plan on completing a “30 for 30” checklist. This is a homemade list that we each have created of things we want to do and accomplish in the first year of the new decade.

We met in a GVSU badminton class in 2009 (shout out to Prof Winia!) and have been enjoying funtivities together ever since. What is a funtivity, you may wonder? It’s a Colton word that encompasses any activity that you find fun. If it makes you happy and you’re doing something, consider it a funtivity! In a short amount of time, we found a connection over our love for being active and experiencing new things. It wasn’t long before we were traveling the country (and world!) together. We got married in 2015 and have since found that there is nothing more spectacular than experiencing life with your best friend.

Colton: Can often be found balancing on two wheels. An avid mountain biker with a strong love for anything outdoors, Colton is Mr. Go-Go-Go. Some of our family members don’t think that his energizer battery ever runs out. When he isn’t behind bars (bike handlebars, don’t worry!), Colton loves to fly fish, hunt, hike, ski, camp, you know, all the awesome outdoors things. After growing up on a farm in western Michigan, his roots run deep as a native of the Mitten and the Great Lakes.

Brevard, NC

Lauren: When she’s not trying to keep up with Colton on the bike, she loves hiking, snowboarding, camping, cooking and saying hi to all the animals. A devoted Ohio State fan (Yes, we’re a little bit of a house divided!), Lauren grew up in Ohio, North Carolina and finally Michigan before following her Mom’s footsteps to become a Physical Education teacher. This spring semester Lauren will be on a sabbatical from teaching at her school in Arvada, Colorado.

Idaho Springs, CO

Sailor: She took her first road trip at 10 weeks old from North Carolina to Michigan, so she’s a bit of a travel professional. Sailor has been on backpacking trips, traveled by boat to the islands and has stared into the eyes of a moose to protect her humans. A lover of off-leash hiking, chasing birds, stealing socks and cuddling on furniture, that face gets her out of a lot of trouble.
